Lapping it up

I made up my mind and ordered a new laptop. It’s a Sony Vaio FW Series. Yes I know a lot of people hate Sony for various reasons, but I have a Vaio laptop now. It’s from 2003 and is still the most gorgeous laptop I’ve ever seen, with the most spectacular screen. The new one looks even better. Since everyone’s interested in specs and the site is too flashy/fussy to link to:

Model Number: US-VGNFW590-LBOM
VGN-FW590 Configure-to-Order

Customization Details:

  • Large Capacity Battery (VGP-BPL13)
  • CD/DVD playback/burning
  • 4GB (2GBx2) DDR2-SDRAM-800
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 graphics with 1GB dedicated video RAM
  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66GHz)
  • 16.4″ VAIO Display (1600×900)
  • Genuine Microsoft® Windows® 7 Professional
  • 500GB SATA Hard Disk Drive (5400rpm)
  • Black
  • FreshStart™
  • No additional AntiVirus Software
  • No additional Photo Editing Software
  • No additional Office Software
  • No additional Finance Software
  • No additional Video Editing Software

It’s supposed to ship November 30 and take 5-7 days to arrive.

The Nebula color is nice, but it’s backordered and I thought I’d get tired of looking at it. I got the highest specs I could afford. My favorite feature in the Configure-to-Order may be the “FreshStart” choice: no crapware! Not even Norton, which I planned to spend the first couple of hours removing.

Can’t wait!

I find it hard to believe they won’t have any crapware at all. Either way, good for you for making that choice. When I bought my laptop from Dell in ’05, I just wiped it on day 1 and installed a clean copy of XP Pro.

Just curious, No addition Office Software means what exactly? No Microsoft Office or is that some Sony office software they normally include?

They either install trial versions of the assorted software or charge full price. I bought my own CD of Office so I own it and can install on three machines.

We actually have one of these laptops at our house, and the silver on the left mouse click is wearing away! We’ve only had it since December.

Have you had the same problem with yours? Sony have told us that they will NOT fix it, because it’s cosmetic damage, which isn’t covered, which is annoying :(

I got this in December and no silver is wearing off.
